Nigel Luck

Nigel Luck has been teaching fashion design at the leading Fashion Courses in the UK for more than 30 years, and his alumni include many famous designer names as well as graduates who now work for top international fashion brands. He was a Year Tutor at Central St Martins for many years before becoming BA Course Leader at Westminster Fashion and later MA Course Director for the womenswear course at London College of Fashion. His former esteemed students include Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo, Hussein Chalayan, Christopher Bailey, Ashley Williams, Christopher Raeburn, Liam Hodges, Giles, Antonio Berardi, and many others.

Lecture Series:

In this unprecedented 5 lecture series, internationally acclaimed fashion tutor Nigel Luck will take you on an exciting journey through the design process from expert research to fabric selection to creating original ideas via drawing or mannequin work, right through to style outfits and the runway show. This is a unique opportunity for prospective students planning a career in fashion design and young designers who wish to master their skills and learn from the best. The lessons will take on Thursdays 6-8 pm. Starting from 11th February 2021

What will you will learn

Key Principles of fashion design; how to do expert research for a fashion collection; how to select materials and to create your own textile design; how to market and sell your collections; different design methods including drawing, pattern cutting, and draping; how to style your work ; fashion industry insights including an overview of key industry trade shows, PR and HR agencies; overview of the key industry players, including designers, fashion show producers, stylists, and models.

  • Lecture 1. The research process and discovering ideas for inspiration.

  • Lecture 2. Fabric Exhibitions, Agents, Fabric retailers, textile design and fabric design

  • Lecture 3. Influential Fashion Designers and their work - London, Paris, Milan

  • Lecture 4. Creating a collection through drawing and or pattern-cutting/draping

  • Lecture 5. International Fashion Weeks: PR, Models, Show Producers, Stylists, Shows
